Lugar Statement for Carbon Motors Press Conference

U.S. Sen. Dick Lugar today joined Carbon Motors at the announcement of its partnership with BMW to supply the drive train for the E7 law enforcement vehicle. Lugar's comments are below. Photos are available at http://www.flickr.com/photos/senatorlugar/sets/72157623671123092/.

"Since the announcement in Connersville, Indiana last year, we have remained very encouraged about Carbon Motors and this significant announcement today is particularly exciting.

"We are excited by this car's functional design for the law enforcement mission. We are excited by its green features, by how it will reduce the use of foreign oil, and its lower emissions. We are excited for potentially thousands of jobs in Indiana and elsewhere in the supply chain. And we are excited to have the commitment of BMW to Connersville, Indiana, USA.

"With some impatience, I have been urging the U.S. Department of Energy to move forward in processing direct loan applications for Carbon Motors and other Indiana applicants. I believe the job creating partnership being announced today should be a great plus for moving quickly and getting people to work on the Carbon E7. I understand the Department of Energy will look at the car later this week. I trust this review will spur excitement for this remarkable vehicle.

"Throughout the last decade I argued that Indiana has the critical mass of people, companies, researchers and expertise to lead in advanced car and car component innovation. Today marks a milestone in entering this promising future. Thank you for your commitment and we look forward to many successes."
